Core Principle No. 2: Conscious

Once balance comes into place in the self-concept, higher levels of consciousness begin to surface. Scores in the Yellow Zone indicate a state of self-regulation where we begin to see others as people who can teach us about ourselves by mirroring our patterns back to us. We begin to care about the impact we have on others, and are conscious of our actions by noticing the reactions they catalyze in others. We choose to self-regulate because we have shifted to a belief system that is aware "that the sum of the whole can be greater than the sum of the one" in some circumstances. We approach learning with open curiosity because we become aware that our own awareness, intellect and belief system is only part of what is possible. We know that we are an expert at our own domains of interest, but that organizations and larger groups need a wisdom that contains the awareness, intellect and belief systems of many domains of interest and we need multiple contributors to the solution.

Balanced + Conscious (Principles 1 + 2)

One of the most important goals of personal development is to refine a capacity for living in a more balanced and conscious way. When we operate from a core self-concept that is balanced in all four Tilt patterns and is whole-brain developed, we are able to think in more complex ways to solve higher level challenges. The by-product of this increase in brain complexity make personal actualization possible. Moving into higher levels of capacity means we see the complexities of the world more clearly and are able to navigate more diverse environments or face more complex challenges.

Description: When all four Tilting patterns of Tilt 365 are in balance.

When you are in BALANCE and not Tilting significantly (meaning you have a score of 3.5 or better in all four quadrants), it means that you are engaging all four patterns of intelligence represented by the four Tilts and are interacting in a way that enables a team climate that will produce productivity and creative flow in those around you. This is true because you are operating from an authentic, higher self that is not tilting to any one extreme too often. Tilting is okay and even helpful when it is used in moderation to effect a specific outcome. Used too frequently or in too much extreme, it is perceived by others as manipulative and could potentially divide and polarize the team. For example, in human systems, there is a natural tendency to offset extremes in one another. A perceived need to balance polar extremes by a member of the team will inevitably result in divided factions. And divided teams that are not unified or aligned will not succeed.

When balanced and conscious, your greatest gift to the people you work with is that you are now able to engage whole-brain thinking and shift your perspective to enable seeing situations from multiple points of view at once. Your perspective is broadened and you are able to see the big picture that includes what is good for you, the team and the enterprise all at once.

Your top passions will still be best applied according to your natural Tilt tendency, but you will enable the passions of others on the team when their own Tilt is the best one for the situation. Because you are balanced in your perspective, you can shift leadership to the person on the team who is the most competent to guide everyone toward the right decisions and actions.

SHADOW (Denied-self)

Because you are balance, you are aware of your shadow tendencies, but they do not control you. You may sometime have to put forth some effort to manage your subconscious urgings but are in command of your personality. You have it, instead of it having you! For this reason, you can be counted on to demonstrate behaviors that create positive energy inside yourself and you don’t have relationship discord to clean up like you may have had when you were Tilting more.

AVOIDANCE STRATEGY (to personal development of your shadow)

You are less inclined to avoid regulation of your shadow elements and mindfully attend to what is best for the team.

You may still have some patterns that trip you up from time to time, but you are aware of your inner needs and don’t try to seek validation outside of yourself. Instead you seek what you need from inside yourself including: Self-acceptance, Self-respect, Self-assertiveness, and Self-Expression. Because you do all four when you need to, you are building a strong inner core that will stay the same as external circumstances change around you.

As you continue to actualize and grow, you take it one step at a time and are patient with your human tendencies. You learn to laugh at yourself and relax into ease and flow. The next step in your evolution is to practice balanced, whole-brain intelligence more and more so that it becomes wired into your neural networks and becomes automatic for you. You can begin to exercise less conscious focused effort and can rely on new unconscious patterns that are more productive and contributive to those around you. When the new patterns become wired, you will begin to operate in flow more of the time and will be even more inspired by the creative work you do with others.

Stretch GOAL

Score of 4.0 or better in all four quadrants.

Note: Change of environment can sometimes mean starting over. But once you settle into a new situation, you will quickly adjust now that you are mostly balanced and contributive.
