Introduction:

Blind Spots are aspects of our personality structure that we are not yet aware of, but others are aware of. Sometimes our underlying needs are so much a part of who we are that the behavior patterns associated with them are experienced by others, but we are not conscious of them. For example, if when growing up, we subconsciously decided that we are in some ways inferior to others around us, then we may develop a perceived need for status that others experience, but we do automatically, This could manifest as behavior that attempts to "one up" others or gain superior status over them in order to shore up a weak ago structure in our core identity. The problem arises when we attempt to interact with others without knowing this about ourselves.

Blind Spots on the Tilt 365:

When you have a self-observed score that is 1.5 points or more favorable than the score your collective observers report, you more than likely have a blind spot. It is possible that you are aware of the gap (conscious of it) in perception and have chosen not to change it for your own reasons, but this doesn't matter to others. People who encountner you who will believe that you are either unaware of the impact of your extreme trait patterns or aware and unable to change it. In the latter case, you are likely to be perceived as someone to avoid. Why? Because our fellow human beings have an instinctual wisdom about the distinction between fellow contributors and fellow takers. Contributors tend to be people who are going to contribute to the best interest of those they encounter in some way and Takers are more than likely going to take something from your life without any corresponding benefit of mutuality. For this reason, most people tend to be cautious and guarded in their interactions with those who exhibit Blind Spots in the Orange and Red Zone. Blind Spots in the Yellow Zone are generally not experienced as problematic, so if your scores are above a 3.0, there is no need to alter behavior. In this case, you are neither taking or contributing and are simply cooperating with others who are making a difference. From an enterprise view, this is fine. From a personal view, you may want to make a bold move to stretch your behaviors into the green zone with new practices that build character strength in that area.

The Four Tilting Patterns and their cause:

Our Blind Spots will often have a pattern of occurrence that resides in one or more of the four quadrants of the Tilt Whole-Person Model. If you have reported Blind Spots that need work, refer to the Overused Traits section of this Wiki to determine if there is a pattern of several in the same quadrant of Wisdom, Humanity, Courage or Resilience. If so, then you should learn about the reason for your pattern and the underlying unmet need that is driving them in a subconscious way. Each of the Four Tilting Patterns is caused by one of Four Unmet Human Needs. Only YOU can meet this unmet need inside yourself by growing your positive self-concept. Trying to get these needs met by taking from others is a fool's journey and will lead only to frustration and unmet creative potential. The only way to shift your self-concept in positive ways is to choose intentional, positive growth of the 12 character strengths in the Tilt Model, as follows:

Growing your Wisdom Character Strengths will result in Self-Value. (versus trying to upstage others in terms of Status & Significance).

Growing your Courage Character Strengths will result in Self-Respect. (versus trying to get Power & Autonomy by being stronger than others).

Growing your Humanity Character Strengths will result in Self-Acceptance. (versus trying to get Acceptance & Approval from others by having them like you).

Growing your Resilience Character Strengths will result in authentic Self-Expression. (versus trying to get others to admire your uniqueness in terms of Freedom & Novelty).

Character Strength takes intentional effort and a genuine desire to move through life's challenges with grit and persistence until you grow stronger. Balancing Stability and Change over the course of your development allows this to unfold your true potential beyond what you can imagine in your current state of understanding.
